Growing into the Role: Learning from Nora

  • Nora’s Role: Thursday Site Coordinator for ISLAH 2; responsible for planning, coordinating, and supplying activities for site and driving interns/volunteers to site.

  • One habit that makes someone especially effective at this site: Being able to stay patient with the students when they are not staying calm and paying attention. It is good to understand that they are still maturing and making sure to find ways to calm them down.

  • Something Nora’s learned from working with this age group: It is difficult to get them to get work done, especially since Nora didn’t know she’d be working with 5th graders this year. Nora learned how to incorporate more exciting lessons for the kids that are more engaging.
